Pumpkin,  scientifically known as Cucurbita moschata Duchesne, is found in the tropics. Its leaves are dark green vegetables, used in various soups in West Africa. It is rich in water, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, manganese,  vitamins A , K and folate.  And very low in cholesterol.

  1.  Heart Health: Pumpkin leaves promote heart health  in two ways. Through its fiber content, which reduces the production of cholesterol, and through its high potassium content.
  2. Immune System: Its high iron content is needed by red blood cells which transport oxygen and aids healing processes.
  3. Soft and Subtle Skin: Pumpkin leaves are rich in Vitamin A which helps protect the skin against free radicals and toxins as well as maintain moisture.
  4. Colon Cancer: Research in the last decades have shown that foods rich in fiber help prevent against Colon Cancer. Pumpkin leaf is rich in fiber.

  6. Reduce symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis: Pumpkin leaf is rich in Vitamin B6, which helps in curbing joint pain and muscles aches due to arthritis
  7.  Strong bones and teeth: Pumpkin leaf consists of huge amount of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D which are essential for the bones and teeth.

Premenstrual Syndrome: Many women suffer from premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which is manifest in mood swings, depression and irritability.  Manganese, found in pumpkin leaf can be useful to reduce these monthly situations.Women who suffer from severe PMS symptoms are advised to consume manganese supplements as well as manganese rich foods.
