Still in line with our current series on maternal health, we made a video addressing contributing factors to high maternal death rates in developing countries. Recent data by the WHO shows persistent high mortality rates in sub-sahara Africa. 80% of these deaths can be avoided if contributing factors are addressed and resolved. Ignorance and lack of health personnel and facilities in poor communities are some of the major problems. It is thus paradox that these communities are mostly cut off health campaigns due to language barrier and complicated medical parlance. In our attempt to help improve on the situation we did this video in a lingua franca spoken in almost every class of the society by roughly 200 million people in West Africa and the Caribbean , especially in remote areas. Due to growing internet coverage, these communities are increasingly being integrated into the global village and this is where we hope to meet them and bridge the gap.
In part 2 of our series on maternal health we address common complications and immediate causes of death, related to childbearing. If you missed part 2 you could catch up here. For more MeDucation visit our youtube channel.
